Soma Drug Information
Usage
Soma is a muscle relaxant medication used to alleviate or temporarily relieve the pain and stiffness associated with muscle spasms and to help lessen the effects of discomfort experienced due to a strain or sprain which has occurred.
How To Take It
Soma is to be taken orally by mouth. In general, the usual adult dosage of this medication is 350 mg each pill. Typically it is taken three times a day as well as at bedtime if necessary. You should check with your doctor about specific dosing information. Patients under twelve years of age should not use this drug. It is often recommended to take this medication with food or a glass of milk to help lessen the occurrence of digestive symptoms such as experiencing an upset stomach.
What To Look Out For: Warnings/Precautions
You should not take Soma if you have been previously diagnosed with intermittent porphyria. You should also let your doctor know if you have live or kidney disease as special dosing of the medication or monitoring during time of treatment may be necessary. It is not yet known if taking Soma while pregnant may have any affects to an unborn fetus. Please talk with your doctor if you are pregnant before taking any medications. A current connection Soma being passed into breast milk has yet to be established. It is important that you do not take Soma without first consulting with your physician if you are currently breast-feeding. Remember, Soma has not been approved for being dispensed to children less than twelve years of age.
What Happens If I Miss A Dose?
If you forget to take a dose of Soma, you may take the dose if you remember within an hour or so. If a long period of time has elapsed from the time you were supposed to take that dose, skip it, and then continue with your current dosing schedule, beginning with the next dose. It is important to remember that you should not double-up on this medication if you miss a dose.
Side Effects
There are several side effects that may be experienced such as dizziness, headache, depressive responses, or insomnia. Allergic reaction symptoms, such as a rash, is also possible. Severe reaction symptoms occur, such as developing a fever, experiencing weakness, and experiencing hypotension, but these happen rarely.
Overdose
If an overdose is suspected, please seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of such an overdose may include low blood pressure, a decreased ability to breath, and overall unconsciousness.
